In celebration of National Salsa Month in May, Howell County News visited with Carolyn and Duane “Butch” Fine of Willow Springs, who enjoy eating salsa. They love to try new recipes and are still looking for the perfect salsa.
Because wood ash has a fine particle size, it reacts rapidly and blends completely into the soil. Although small amounts of nutrients are applied with wood ash, the main effect is that of a liming agent.


Judy Vaughn of Willow Springs recalls Sunday trips to the family farm, where Grandma Cora Cunningham grew her own apple trees and made homemade apple butter. “She had a woodpile for her wood cook stove. The pieces of wood Grandpa must have hauled in from a mill. They were small and we loved to play with them,” said Vaughn.


The book chronicles how a mother, with the support of her husband and children, searched for her missing children in the jungles of the Marshal Islands, the poverty-choked country of Vietnam, and the corrupt country of Haiti. It is also the heart wrenching story of a family that fought and struggled to find their children in the U.S. through private adoptions and state foster-care systems.
